One Little Rock dad is rejoicing after his 11-year-old son underwent a successful kidney transplant surgery.

Father’s Day is this Sunday, but one Little Rock dad is celebrating early. Wednesday, he was part of his son’s kidney transplant party.

Just 10 days ago, Melissa and Brian Hershbine’s son, Gavin, had a kidney transplant. The 11-year-old has been battling kidney problems since he was diagnosed at the age of three.

After waiting for a year and a half, Gavin’s dad said this kidney transplant is the best Father’s Day gift he could receive.

“We serve a God that takes care of us and meets our needs, and he’s just great,” said Hershbine. “You know, we can’t get any better than that. Our kid’s alive and doing well and being treated well and taken care of. You can’t ask for anything more than that on Father’s Day.”

Gavin’s mother said he’s been looking forward to this kidney party for a while.

In attendance was the transplant team who performed the operation, all those who’ve been taking care of the family, and a few friends.
