Speaking at Winthrop on the importance of organ and blood donation ?♻
Spreading awareness is not just for the recipients but the donor families , donors and all the people that will need transplant’s in the future. Hopefully one day there will be no waiting list !!!!
Today is also one of my transplant bff re-birthday Joanne Mohr Balint , this is what transplantation is about living life and enjoying the time you are given.
Have you heard about the Mechanic and the Surgeon?
A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a Harley Motorcycle when he spotted a well-known Surgeon in his shop.
The surgeon was waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his bike, when the mechanic shouted across the garage, ‘Hey Doc, can I ask you a question?’
The Surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to where the mechanic was working on a motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hand on a rag and asked. “So Doc, look at this engine. I opened its heart, took the valves out, repaired all that was damaged, and then put them back in. Now it works just like new. So, how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks when you and I are doing basically the same work?”
The surgeon paused, smiled and lean over, and whispered to the mechanic, “Try doing it with then engine running.”
-Jo Michaels- originally published in the LI TRIO Newsletter in 2006.
“It has been nearly 2 years since my mother’s passing, just 4 days prior to her scheduled discharge from the hospital where she was a patient. At the time of her death, the medical personnel on the third shift of the holiday weekend failed to notify the Gift of Life to initiate the organ/tissue donation process. One of my mother’s last wishes was to have the opportunity to donate her organs/tissues to individuals in need. She never got her opportunity to “pay it forward.” ”
“Justin was a loving father and devoted husband, as well as a highly competitive racing driver who was respected by his peers. The family would like to thank the staff at the Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital, Pocono Raceway, Andretti Autosport, and the Verizon IndyCar Series as well as the entire racing community for the amazing outpouring of support from fans around the world.”
The family also said that Wilson was an organ donor and they will honor his wishes.
Mike I was just wondering: did he die related to his liver transplant or other?
Thanks, Regina
P.S. my husband is facing a liver transplant with God’s grace it will be done.
Did you see the special sign I had made for the back of my car?? I get more comments from strangers. That allows me to speak about organ donation. Have a good day, Karen.
Just wanted to share my way of advertising Organ Donation and the license has my initials and date of liver transplant.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of George but find peace knowing that he and Sue will be together in heaven.
I will always remember George for how truly grateful he was about the gift of life he received, his dedication to LITRIO, easy smile, his sense of humor, his love of cookies and his positivity. I remember his power point presentations and his kind invitation to join all of you for the luncheon after Sue’s memorial.
I regret that I wasn’t able to attend his memorial in person as I didn’t find out in time.
I wish your Family peace and healing as everyone mourns the truly remarkable man that was George.
Your organization has done great things and the categories on this website show that. Keep speaking for everyone on the its waiting for the gift of life and keep representing us to those elected to serve us.
In December 2013, my sister-in-law received a kidney from a woman who had donated that morning at the UCLA Medical Center. The same day that she received the kidney, my kidney was removed, packed up and flown to Mt. Sinai in NYC. My understanding is that the gentleman that received my kidney lives on Long Island. We were part of a 20-person chain! Ten donors, ten recipients – so awesome. Watching my sis-in-law enjoy life without dialysis makes me hopeful that my L.I. gentleman is doing well and enjoying his life. Some day I hope that our paths will cross. From San Jose, CA.
Next Saturday at this time, I will be hugging my donor family after 18 years!!!!
I get to thank them in person. I feel blessed more then I can explain in words. I made the video the other day to show how grateful I am for this opportunity.
The video is on the blog page here. I didn’t realize how many people would actually watch it. I want people to know that they should never give up looking for your donor family or miracles.
Each day is a blessing and with the gift I received 18 years ago, i’m here today. Matthew you are my guardian angel and your family are my angels.
Thank you all for passing my video around. It’s received over 3,000 views. I hope this helps to promote organ donation awareness and one day there will be no more waiting LIST! Liveonny.

Incredible job, Mike! Very well constructed and easily navigable. Your dedication to the organization comes through on every page. Thank you for everything you do for the organization.
Today Morgan’s Stanley’s children hospital had their 30 year reunion of heart transplants. They have done 500 over 30 years.
I was able to honor Dr. Addonizio and Rose and the staff from The hospital. 18 years ago I was a scared girl waiting for a heart tx. Dr. A became a second mom to me, I’m so happy I can be a part of the celebration!
When a student comes up to you after class and hugs you, it truly makes me overwhelmed with joy. I may not be doing the career I thought I would, though I love love love speaking about organ donation awareness and sharing Matthews story.
Interacting with students and faculty truly makes my heart happy with such gratitude and emotions. If I could speak everyday I would.
There is so much here for everyone and every page is set up so beautifully. You always do such a great job providing support and you did such a great job with this Mike and Trio. It’s a pleasure reading articles here.
I spent way too much time on this website. Once I started reading the news and each person’s story on members page I was hooked. Then I found the blog and videos. TRIO your site is like Facebook Part 2. I spend way too much time on Facebook too you know. You did a great job giving us all of the materials news and multimedia media on the site. It takes a musician to create a website like this! Mike, this is an incredibly cogent, articulate, informative, well thought out and executed – and totally delightful – website! It is beautiful to look at (where DID you get the wonderful inlaid, Sorrento-esque wood wallpaper?), and highly organized. The wealth of information about transplant – from all angles – is extraordinary, no matter how well informed about this subject you are!
The background colors are easy on the eyes, and the typeface (font) is perfect, as is its point size, making articles easy to read. I particularly like the excellent précis of the articles, with the cited piece available below, in case one wants to read more on the subject.
The categories in the menu bar make all the information contained in the site so easy to find initially and, perhaps, return to at a later time.
If I had an award to give you, Mike, for this Herculean task, it would now be yours! This website is the perfect home for us, the members of this important organization, Long Island TRIO! BRAVO!!!
Long Island TRIO’s website is an amazing resource for anyone waiting for or recieving a transplant. Even those considering becoming a live donor can obtain a great deal of valuable information!

I was given a second chance at life, I’m still not sure to this day why I received this second chance but I did. My life changed that day , a day that will ever be a life changing day not only for my self but others around me.
It’s still surreal to me , every year I receive a re-birthday. I was not supposed to be here but I am. I am grateful for this gift more then words can express. My donor angel and donor family saved me !!!!
Today is not just about my life but , but Matthews as well. Today I celebrate life I know Matthew as well as my friend Larry are shining down upon me.
I’m not sure where life is gonna take me, or what tomorrow brings. Though today it is a magnificent day. I am truly happy to be alive
You told important information about outcome of the fight to stop CMS and latest proposal.
